Protect the integrity of WMATA's Wide Area Network infrastructure to protect the transport of data traffic traveling across the network infrastructure.
Ensure data reaches its destination without disruption of services due to hackers, virus, intrusion or breach to various network components connected to the network infrastructure.
Maintain the operational functionality of the UNIX servers and Operating Systems (OS).
Complete system installations and upgrades.
Monitor servers.
Use appropriate peripheral tools and processes to ensure optimal system performance.
Perform daily backups, troubleshooting the system to assess system condition. Modify the PERIL scripts to ensure that the NOC systems are running efficiently. Comprehensive knowledge of Internet network protocols.
Ability to troubleshoot in the event of a failure.
Install and configure necessary backup software/hardware and ensure working backup process is in place for critical OS and application files and directories.
Evaluate and correct any problems with backup process.
Document processes and administrative flow.
Assess system condition.
Install required patches or updates.
Ensure internal disk drives are set up in a redundant mirror configuration (if applicable) for optimum performance.
Reconfigure disk partitioning as necessary for optimum application performance. Configure system as part of a common authentication and user ID system. Verify authentication to existing NOC radius servers.
Install Solaris 9 and apply recommended patches.
Evaluate and recommend additional UNIX utilities, programs and updates. Install/update approved UNIX utilities and programs (Perl, Expect,
Syslog-ng, SUDO, etc).
Evaluate disk array RAID configuration, optimize as necessary and configure to match redundant server.
Assist with NMS application installations.
Perform OS hardening as necessary for vulnerability scans and audits. Evaluate and recommend application hardening or security enhancements. Implement approved NMS Application hardening or security enhancements. Assist with operational testing ofNMS Applications.
Assist as necessary with NMS application redundancy configuration, HTTPS connections to ACS and restore Self Signed SSL certificate for HTTPS connections.
Minimum Requirements
Experience with UNIX (AIX, Solaris, Linux) plus Microsoft Windows NT 4.0; Microsoft Windows 2000/ 2003Server, including multi-domain models and trusts, DNS, WINS, DHCP, hosts and LMHOST configuration.
Support Active Directory management.
Provide troubleshooting support, RPC and name resolution troubleshooting, UNIX and Windows connectivity troubleshooting in a firewall environment.
Experience with email administration and troubleshooting (Exchange 5.5-2003). Expert-level understanding of industry standard email and Windows server security practices and architecture.
Information technology experience with on-the-job WAN engineering experience in a primarily Cisco environment.
Substantial experience in UNIX systems administration, implementation and management in a large-scale enterprise environment.
Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of PCs and Macintosh computers. Demonstrated excellent written communication skills, including documentation and correspondence.
Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in computer science or electrical engineering.
Sun Certified System Administrator for the Solaris Operating System. Certified as Sun Network Administrator for the Solaris Operating System.
Experience Levels
Level 1: three (3) to six (6) years experience
Level2: six (6) or more years experience.
Leve13: ten (10) or more years experience.
